Caregiver questions, answered
What people usually ask before they apply. If yours is not here, call us.
Do I need a CNA license or other certificate?
Not for every role. CNA, CPR, First Aid and CMA certificates are welcome, but we train caregivers on what they may and may not do. Tell us what you hold on the application.
What would I actually do?
Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, walking and transfers, meals, light housekeeping, errands and companionship, following a written plan for each client.
What am I not allowed to do?
We provide non-medical care. Caregivers do not give injections, dose or change medications, change wound dressings, insert or change catheters, or do tube feedings. Medication reminders are part of the plan where the client needs them.
Will I be trained?
Yes. Training covers what is in and out of scope, infection control, client rights, and reporting abuse, neglect and exploitation. You receive our Employee Handbook before orientation.
Is there a background check?
Yes, for everyone. We check criminal history, the Texas Nurse Aide Registry and Employee Misconduct Registry, and other required lists. A criminal history does not automatically end your application, and we explain the process before we run anything.
Do I have to pay to apply or for the background check?
You never pay to apply or to be hired, and you do not pay for the screening checks we run. If the state ever needs a fingerprint to confirm your identity, its vendor charges its own fee (the state form lists $25), and we explain that before you go.
Do I need to give my Social Security number to apply?
No. We do not ask for it on the application or screening forms. Payroll will need it once you are hired, and it goes only into the payroll system.
What identification do I need?
For Form I-9 we need to see original documents in person. You choose which acceptable documents to show from the federal lists. We cannot require specific documents. Orientation and handbook review can be done by video call.
Do I need a car?
Only if you will drive clients or run errands for them. Then we need a valid license and auto insurance.
When and how am I paid?
We pay every two weeks. We discuss your hourly pay with you when we speak, not on the website.
Can I choose my hours?
We match caregivers to clients by schedule, location, language and personality. Tell us your availability and we will match you when a client fits.
Can I care for a family member and be paid?
Sometimes, depending on the program and the health plan. Call us before you assume either way.
What languages do you need?
Many families we serve speak languages other than English, including Vietnamese, Spanish and Arabic. Tell us every language you speak.
What happens after I apply?
We read every application and reply either way. If you are a good fit but we have no matching client yet, we keep your application on file and call you when one comes up.
